Valentine’s Day soup
This morning started with a basic idea of walking at home. Finding a friendly place for coffee and sitting. Not to be. My wife decided we should go to a favorite Khmer restaurant for soup. Khmer soup is very good and my wife spices it up with chili and garlic and pepper and perhaps other stuff. So there we went.
It’s Valentine’s Day here which is celebrated big time by everyone. I got flowers yesterday and ended up not walking as I like. Today I feel like I need to fix that. So will walk downtown.
Travels to Battambang
In a few days we do the three hour bus ride and then spend 4 nights at this hotel we both like. It’s not the nicest but the location wins for us every time. Here’s a little preview of Battambang from one of our trips.
These from a walk I did out of town on a road I found by accident. There I also visited a nice temple.
Now I sit with coffee. Always downtown I do Noi Cafe. Seems friendly and easy to reach from wherever. There’s not much in the way of deep thoughts. Maybe many fleeting ones about life here but that’s always the case. I’ve realized for me there is no crossing over to living truly Khmer style. There are things I can’t and don’t want to surmount. My wife really doesn’t expect any difference either. So I just go about my life. Whether it’s Khmer soup or a walk or moments of coffee time. Some days the writing is just to express those fleeting things. That quick oar dip in the water. A moment of pleasure and then the comfortable couch taking me in.
