Mikes Thoughts

back from Battambang

Coming back today was this few hour trip. The minivan was very comfortable. My wife let me know she would not be cooking so I opted for a tuktuk ride to downtown Siem Reap and of course viva!

viva burrito and beer

Now I sit there between this and a journal thing I have wanted to update. I decided to try this app Journelly out of mostly curiosity. It writes to markdown or org files on iCloud. iCloud and markdown work for me. It seems puzzling how the app supports markdown. Cannot use any headers. Probably cannot use block quotes. Any of the other little things I just take for granted. So how is this supporting markdown? It does do images and I can share things to it. It’s more like this capture thing. Like want something quick. Just use it. Problem is I don’t do quick.

I’m sure the app is worthwhile if you have it write to obsidian or use it like a twitter thing. What I wanted was something like iAWriter that would create markdown files to folders.

It’s far easier to just use a markdown writer than some special tool. It’s like using Drafts. I love the concept. I don’t like it in practice. Why do I need to store the files in a database? This really defeats the use of it with other apps unless I want to do actions to copy the files. But why? What I want is the markdown files to be in some folder.

So journelly just fails for me. I might as well just use some apple shortcut to write markdown files that iA already has provided. Maybe Apple will let me have a refund. It’s just not a satisfactory journaling tool unless I write quick little things in a single markdown file.

That’s just me. Your use may vary. Wouldn’t be the first time.
